Plants in the Wetlands are Arrow arum, Paw Paw tree, and the swamp Rose. Virginia's more than 1 million acers of wetlands. The most common are swamps. Farmers,Builders and other have drained and or filled in nearly half of the wetlands. Rivers have been used as highways since the earliest settlement of the area.
Piedmont
The Piedmont Region covers the central part of the state. The Region's Eastern boundaries are usually marked by a sudden change in the landscape called the fall line. This is a Rock Ridge that is significantly higher than the Tidewater region. The river that flows East from the mountains - such as the potomac, York, James and Rappahannock -Cascade over waterfalls and Rapids at this bridge. Cities like Richmond, Fredricksonberg and Alexandria formed along the fall line because ships couldn't travel farther the rivers.
Plants and Animals
When English colonists landed in Virginia in 1607 they found Forest of Pine Oak Ash in Walmart. They also discovered open medals were Native Americans harvested maze - a type of corn - and tobacco. Red Deer and follow deer lived in Meadows as did rabbits woodchuck and foxes also lived in The Meadows farther west the forest grew more black bears, bobcat, opossums, and wild turkey. Today about half of Virginia is still covered by Forest.
Chesapeake Bay
Chesapeake Bay is the largest bay in the United States. Chesapeake Bay is about 200 miles long. Chesapeake Bay contains more than 3600 kinds of fish. The Chesapeake Bay is one of the states greatest economic assets.
Mountains of Virginia
Mountains Rogers is the highest point it is 5729 ft in height. The Appalachian Trail is 2175 miles long. The McAfee knob located on cattle Mountain. Natural Bridge is 215 feet high. Mountains run through Virginia to North Carolina.
